Rainy day fun - At home

Its been raining a lot recently....shock! So here's a few things i do with Nyla when its miserable outside

1) Make play doh!

Literally keeps her entertained for hours plus she loves helping me in the kitchen. All you need is flour, salt, oil, water and food colouring! Its so easy.  We made some today...

The green food colouring looks a bit radioactive but it settles down into a lime colour.

2) Paint!

Get the overalls and paints out and that's them occupied for a couple of hours.

Idea - Cut up some oranges, limes, lemons etc. and make prints!

3) Turn the living room into a cosy den & watch Disney movies!

This is seriously an underrated option! We did this recently when we were sick and it was so nice. We opened up the sofa bed, closed the curtains, put on Beauty & the Beast and snuggled up. Don't forget to make some snacks before hand. :-)

4) Beauty Salon!

This is probably more aimed at girls but doesn't means boys cant get involved too!

Set up a little area and turn it into their very own beauty salon, you can do mani's & pedi's, face masks, massages etc.

This is a great one as it gives you a chance to cut their nails before you paint them rather than the usual pinning down session! (Unless your kids let you cut their nails with no issues, if so I'm very jealous)

When it was my time to be the client i would lay down and Nyla would massage me with various poking and elbowing techniques. Most of it was enjoyable anyway!

5) Bake!

I'm literally the worst at baking, but Nyla loves doing it and I'm hoping practice makes perfect, even though its been 3 years of practicing and still no improvement.

We recently baked some smarties cookies, which didn't come out how they were supposed to but Nyla still loved them. Haha!

Or if you're feeling lazy, just get a ready made kit from the supermarket.

A few ideas for you, which will hopefully keep them from getting bored and driving you mad! :-)

Sunday swimday

I took Nyla swimming today as we havent been in a while, i forgot how much she loved it! Im definately going to make it a regular thing for her.  I think i picked a bad day to go though, it was "family swim" day so it was absolutely packed. Also it was mainly all dads and their kids as it was a sunday which made me feel even better about being in a swimming costume. Not!

We were a bit early so we sat in the cafe and watched the earlier session that was on, which i wont be doing again as hearing "is it our turn yet" 100 times will drive you crazy!

Heres Nyla looking through the glass and hating all the kids, wish she was in there instead lol

So we went and got changed and went in, i annoyingly forgot her arm bands so had to hold her the whole time. To be honest i loved it as she was so happy it was cute spending real quality time with her.

Half way through, she stopped splashing about like a headcase and looked at me, i was about to ask what was wrong but i didnt need to as i suddenly felt very warm water all around me! Lol, yep she wee'd in the pool. I quickly swam away so nobody would know it was us haha!

Things i forgot that are so important:

- Change for the locker
- Body cream! Omg we were so dry after the shower, chlorine makes you soooo dry!
- Arm bands/ring
- A ball, if you go on a quiet day and there arent any floats or toys out
- Towels, one for when you get out and one for after shower
- Plastic bag to put wet stuff in

That was everything we forgot, hopefully next time i remember to check this post!

Mums night off/My Birthday fun

I recently turned 29 🙈😢😩 which i was gutted about, so not ready to be 30 yet so i hope this is the longest year of my life! In a good way of course haha.  What better way to cheer yourself up about getting old then to plan a night indoors wearing onesies! Definitely in denial about my age!!

So my 3 besties, (4th was home in bed with the flu) came over to mine. I dropped Nyla off to my mums that morning. As it was a "slumber party" i tried to make the front room into a fort, which kindof failed as you need a million blankets!!! So i settled for a cosy effect... pics below...

I brought down the spare mattress and covered it with a huge cosy ikea throw, and tried my hardest to cover the window with blankets.  The girls loved it, and it looked much better when it got dark.  We ordered pizza, drunk the best punch made by me (recipe below) put on a scary film and ate more rubbish! So basically a normal saturday night hahaa.

My beautiful friend Debs, the other 2 didnt want to feature lol

*THE BEST PUNCH IN THE WORLD RECIPE*

For this you will need
- Party ice
- Lemons (& limes if you have them)
- Vodka
- Bucks fizz
- Cranberry juice
- Lemonade

Method.... Chuck loads of it into a huge bowl and drink :-) Have fun! Xx

Free day out!

On Wednesday i decided to leave the car at home (as I am getting sooo lazy)! We went to Honeywood Museum in Carshalton, it was our first time there and it was so cute! They had an arts & crafts session so Nyla made some pictures and had a great time. Haven't decided if they're worthy of making the artwork wall yet!

After that we went to the ponds to feed the ducks, I brought bread with us but they also sell a bag of seeds in the museum for 30p, which I ended up giving to a dad to use. The ducks much preferred the bread.... shock. Would you choose seeds over bread? Me either!

Just wanted to add a post about doing something for free, most of the time when were trying to think of how to entertain the kiddies we think of something that costs money, when most of the time its the free stuff they love!!! #makingmemories :-)  Xx

Cinema Date ❤️

I have been promising to take Nyla to see The Trolls for so long! Every Saturday comes around and she asks "are we seeing the trolls today?" So i finally took her yesterday, which was a bit crazy as it was the first day of half term. The reassuring thing was knowing that if she got bored half way through and wanted to start running around, she would definitely not be alone!  Luckily the film was amaaaaazing and she was soo into it (as was i)! I would definitely recommend taking your little ones whilst its still in the cinema.

The kids were dancing and singing, it was great!  Here's a couple of pics...

Of course barbie had to come!

P.S Check out the kids clubs or junior screenings, tickets are only £2.50 each, even for adults! So cheap!!

Enjoy!   xx

Dating... The "proper" way to meet someone!

I just came across a video on YouTube about meeting someone the old fashioned way, a guy decided he was going to go out in London, walk up to women and just ask them out. The vast majority said no instantly and the others really quizzed him on why he was doing it, and it just got me thinking about dating.

For as long as I can remember I've had so many people tell me not to meet a guy online or in a club as their intentions will never be good. But if someone were to come up to me in the street I would either assume they were trying to sign me up to one of those "free" haircut and photoshoot sessions or I'd immediately say "I have a boyfriend" even if I don't.

Lets be honest if any of our friends knew an amazing single guy we would've already bugged them about setting us up, but they don't, which is why we rely on dating apps or go out to bars to meet someone.

The thing I've never really understood is why is it so bad to meet someone that way? The same guy telling his friends he'll never marry a woman he met in a club will have a sister who goes clubbing all the time, does that mean she is not worthy of marriage either?!

If someone is going to mess you about they're going to do it no matter where or how you meet them. I say give someone the benefit of the doubt, waiting for prince charming to walk into the Ritz whilst your having afternoon tea with your girlfriends is a nice idea but....you know where I'm going with this.

Don't let people make you feel bad for how you choose to meet someone, its better than being home alone scrolling through all the Instagram posts of happy couples wishing it was you.

Kids Slumber Party

Nyla had her first sleepover last week, im not going to lie i was slightly worried how the sharing would go but it was actually fine and they had a great time! My bestie has 2 girls, one is 8 and one is nearly 3 so it wasnt a crazy amount of kids.  The best bit about it is we could sit and chat whilst the girls entertained themselves!

I got some plain fairy cakes from sainsburys (couldve baked but i was being lazy) and the girls had them after lunch, i gave them icing tubes so they could decorate them and it was a great little activity for them. Was also funny to see who would be the first to sack off the decorating and just eat it, haha!

This however, causes a major sugar high. (As they didn't have just one) So the next hour was filled with dance routines, listening to little mix and various Disney soundtracks!

You know what comes next.... the crash!

I brought the spare mattress downstairs and they had a little 5 minute chill time followed by fort making lol! We put loads of blankets over chairs and they had the absolute time of their lives under there.

So.... things you need for a sleepover

  • Disney movies
  • Pizza
  • Popcorn
  • Fairy cakes
  • Loads of blankets for fort building
  • Fun PJ's
  • Cheesy music - Macarena, Barbie girl, spice girls etc
  • Nail varnish
  • Face masks - for mum
  • Wine - for mum, unless they really wont go to sleep and need a bit of help.
Joking!

Let me know what you get up to on kiddie sleepovers :-)

How To Survive Half Term

How to survive half term!

1) Discovery Walk @ Priory Farm, Redhill £2.50pp  I took Nyla here a few weeks back, by far one of the best days out, even better if you bring friends along. You will be given a list of things you can find along the nature trail which you can tick off as you go along. There are loads of lovely creepy crawlies for the kiddies to find, cool tree houses to play in, theres also a part of the trail that is in a forest, we like to call it the "scary adventure" part. Theres a great view point at the top, and a fish pond near the end where you can feed the fish seeds, which you buy from the farm shop for £1. We were there for a couple of hours, on a cold day so in the summer you can stay even longer. The pirate ship was also a big winner! If you bring a packed lunch the whole day out will cost you £6 for entry and fish food, which isn't too bad for a whole day of kids entertainment.

Tip: Bring something to keep them from napping on the way home, its a very tiring day out for them.

2) Soft Play  Standard rainy day fun, kids love it, mums love the coffee, win - win!  Soft plays can be pricey in half term so look out for monthly passes if its your local and you go often. Very few soft plays let adults go free so if you find one you're onto a winner! Personally i think its unfair adults have to pay, we spend enough money in the cafe and its not like the kids can go alone, but hey thats life.

Tip: Bring packed lunch!

Soft play locations (cheaper)  Wacky warehouse - Colliers Wood. £3.50 per child, adults are FREE (yay)  Smaller soft play but bonus is you dont need to run around like a mad woman making sure you dont lose your child.  Downside - You may fight to find a table.

Cafe Flores - Hammersmith £5 per child  Very small indoor play mainly for under 5's but again you can sit and relax whilst the kids go crazy. Theres a bubble machine, unlimited disney songs, a huge chalk board wall and more. Owners are lovely too!

3) Swimming!!!  May seem an obvious one but its never a go to idea for me, probably because its quite a lot of effort, but theres no denying it, kids bloody love it. And you are almost guaranteed a peaceful early evening to yourself as this will have them fast asleep nice an early.

Brentford pool - West London £4.90pp Great beach effect pool, starts off shallow and gets deeper. Huge fun slide!  Tip: bring another human to catch the kid when they come flying out the slide!! Last time we had a bit of a kid-dunk situation, she was fine and loved it but i aged about 10 years with worry!

Westcroft Leisure centre - Carshalton £2.70 per child £4.80 per adult Pretty standard pool, with baby pool & cafe, but loooads of free parking which is great, they also have lots of kids activities, like active antz which is a soft play so you can make the day of it!

4) Duck ponds!  Free day out yaaay! Google local duck ponds and bring some bread, happy faces all around.  Theres a lovely pond in Carshalton with a little bridge you can stand on to feed the ducks. Theres also a park right behind the pond that you can go to after to tire them out!

5) Museums.  Pro - most are free or very cheap Con - Half terms can be crazy, but saying that, most museums put on special events for half term so its not all bad.

Horniman Museum - Forest Hill - Free! Lovely museum, loads to do with kids. Cant fault it at all.  5-10 min walk from forest hill station, or parking onsite.

Science museum - South Kensington - Free (donations optional)  Who doesnt love the science museum! Huge space, loads of cool things to see, bubble show, play area, huge cafe area with seating where you can eat a packed lunch.

Tip: Leave the buggy at home if you can, waiting for lifts and leaving it in the buggy park area is just added stress you dont need!

Hope you enjoyed this post. Would love to hear where you take your little ones for half term? xx

Our First Home

When i had Nyla i was still living at home with my mum in SW London, which was great for me as i had no idea what to do with a baby! After 3 months (and still no idea what to do with a baby) i rented a tiny little flat in Kensington which i absolutely loved. It was above a little newsagents and the man that owned it was lovely so i always felt safe. We were there nearly 2 years but it was only a 1bed so as Nyla got bigger and her toy collection grew we needed more space. So we moved to a two bed house in Ealing. I love west london and know it very well, i thought it would be a great place for Nyla to grown up, however the harsh reality was we couldnt afford anymore than what we had. So an opportunity came up for me to buy, so we are now living in our first home which is back in South London/Surrey borders which i know really well.  Weve been here since August 2016, it needed quite a bit of cosmetic work, which i initially said i would finish before Christmas, its now February and im still not finished! I'll insert some before and after pics of what i have done....

Here's Nylas room before & after...

Here's my room now, before...

After...

Im halfway through the living room, ive painted it and  it has furniture but i want to replace the sofa as its too small, i also need to get curtains and a coffee table.

Hopefully it will all be finished before Christmas 2017! Haha :-)

Im a single mum, and although at times its hard I wouldnt change it for the world. I'll be sharing my experiences/thoughts on being a single mum, day to day life, everything child related from tantrums to tooth fairies, as well as what i get up to when im baby free! Thanks for reading :-)  Nadiyah xxx
